Did I mention I love my bike?

I took advantage of the beautiful weather today, and rode my bike through downtown Corvallis, then out to the Organic Growers Club Festival. It was heavenly. Here are some pictures from the ride.

Happy me.

An ode to trees, part 1

I am a tree-hugger. When I was a kid, I climbed them a lot, and felt protected by them. When I grew a little older and discovered the symbiotic relationship between people and trees (O2 and CO2) it fascinated me, and made them seem even more alive to me.

Because I was thinking about trees today, I dug up an old poem I wrote when I was 14. It may be a little cheesy, but it makes me happy.

My secret place

It seems these knobby handles
were put here just for me
The leafy frames of green and brown
make windows for to see
the wonders of my little world around
both flow'r and bee
All viewed from my cherished kingdom
high, inside a tree

This picture is a repost but I just love it

Scratch tracks

Saturday is my scratch track session at Wild Rose: I will be recording all (as many as I think are ready) my songs to send in for copyrighting. Then I will set up my first gig in almost 10 years. Needless to say, I am really excited!

Some of these songs I haven't played in quite awhile. So I have been practicing. It is interesting what emotions are stirred up. Some songs I wrote as early as age 15. As I sing and play, I am thoroughly reminded how it felt to be a teenage version of me, and the torrent of emotions I felt at the time. Although I have changed much, and have (hopefully) gained more balance, I retain that same part of me that holds intensity of emotion and passion for life. The part which wants so badly to express itself.

One thing that has changed: I do not mind being vulnerable. In the music, I can wear my heart on my sleeve.
